This game is perfect for: hardcore gamers

This game is by far, one of the best games Square Enix has put out. The game is diverse and just awesome. There are so many things to do and it can never get boring. The storyline allows you to travel at your own pace, you can always go back and level up. There is also the fact that everywhere you go, there is actually a challenge when fighting the monsters. The game is not linear, which is a great bonus, so you can skip things or add random things that either don't affect or completely change the storyline. All true Final Fantasy fans will love this game.

To any rpg fans don't bother buying any final fantasy games they get worse and worse every time i play one. If you want a great rpg look forward to getting tales of graces f. Despite its kiddy looks it will be the best rpg you will ever play guaranteed.

This game is perfect for: casual gamers

The game starts out with a mind blowing battle that absolutely rivets you to your seat. Oh, and get this, it's player interactive. Also, just in case you've read the disappointment about not having other characters to play with besides Serah and Noel, well don't listen to them. Once you unlock the Coliseum certain characters will be made available to fight. Once beaten they will be characters you can add to your party paradigms. For example, I have Lightning and Amodar that I can both use in my party. More are going to be added soon. I will say however the story itself is kinda out there. Once you stop trying to make sense of it, turn your brain off and take it for what it is, a japanese game about time travel, you'll really enjoy the game. Plus the constant eye candy is worth it by itself. So far I really like the game. So much better than FF13.

This game is perfect for: casual gamers

I have been a fan of FF since almost the start. IMO, the story in XIII-2 is just really poorly done with all the time travel into the future, past and present (I hate time paradox stories of any kind because they don't make sense). I found myself not caring about the storyline after a while and just wanted to finish the game no matter the outcome. As far as gameplay and battle, you have 2 main players throughout the game with a third part of your party being a monster you captured and trained. The battle scenes are typical FF style with the ATB which is always fun for fighting. The graphics are great but some of the music being played will put you to sleep. The best part of the game is visiting Serendipity, a gambling hall, where you can race your own Chocobo.

I'll tell you what FFXIII-2 is an amazing step up from its predecessor. I've only played a little bit of the game and it instantly got me hooked. It honestly never got boring like FFXII One. Glad Square did it better this time around.

I love this game! I loved Final Fantasy 13 as well. What most of the people reviewing this game don't understand is that Final Fantasy has evolved like most games have over the years. It is different in a way but it is still Final Fantasy. I love the gameplay in both 13 and 13-2. Its fast and most realistic then it was in say, Final Fantasy 10. I'm not saying that Final Fantasy 10 was a bad game, I loved that game but attacking one by one doesn't make sense in real life. Now back to Final Fantasy 13-2 =) I love the characters and the storyline. Throughout the game I fell in love with Noel! He is such a good character. The voice acting is also amazing. This game has the best voice actors! And omg adult Hope is adorable! How can anyone say that this game sucks. It is WONDERFUL!! The graphics are breathtaking and the relationships are just magical. I will forever be a fan of Final Fantasy no matter what anyone says.

is this a sequel?

Hey, do you need to play/beat the first one to understand the story in this one? Unfortunately with the previous game, I just couldn't seem to get into it no matter how hard I tried. I love final fantasy, don't get my wrong. I just felt that the first 10 hours or so were just drawn out....I dont know. Anyways, whats your opinion as to the story line? Can I play this one and understand whats going on without the first one?

We're in a generation where RPG's have changed (like every other [or most] genre has) so: ....If you wanna play up to date rpgs.. this is a good game to get. You actually get to roam around as often you like although not exactly 100% open WORLD, you have crystarium freedom, and you can control your own pace w.o getting bored. ....Keep in mind though this isnt 2001 where we use dial up and fat cell phones. So, if you're old school and dream about FFVII-X all day, don't play this. .....For those who arent sure, Ignore what every PS1 FF fanboy says and get your own opinion on the game. I'll admit, I'm a FF fan and I'm attached. People need to appreciate (any) games for what they have and offer.

The ending to Final Fantasy XIII contained a contradiction; it broke the rules. But it rang true to the game's overarching theme of the infinite strength of the human spirit, with characters that declared they would contradict all the rules -- a touching note to end on. Final Fantasy XIII-2 then desperately jumps through fanatical loops in trying to dismantle the respectable conclusion of another game, and to a point of near hilarity. Savvy followers may even have questions of smaller magnitude, such as why everyone is suddenly capable of using magic. Well they just can, says the game's datalog. Why didn't Square just make Lightning a pop singer and call it a day?

But it's naïve to say it all ends there, and unfair to claim that Final Fantasy XIII-2 isn't for the fans. It's not even half complete when the credits roll, and a plethora of content still waits untapped. It's a monster collector's favorite hunting spot, a trailblazer's backpack of spoils, and a completionist's paradise. Cameos and salutes to older games abound, challenges to truly test those thirsty for battle await, and powerful skills and items lie in hiding - this is a gamer's game, and it's darn well appreciated.
